Post subject:  Clutch Setup...........

Guys, setting up the clutch this morning via the old gregorys manual which states:

"With the clutch release bearing in light contact with the clutch thrust plate, clearance between the adjustable stop and the operating lever must be maintained at 1.5mm (0.060")"

Now forgive me for being stupid or whatever, but that doesn't make much sense to me i'm afraid :oops: .

I set it to 1.5mm and i could not even get the car into gear :?

Can anyone give me some hints (in simple language) their tips to setting up their operating lever adjustment and overthrow settings????? Or are your settings out there as the manual states???

Hey, I said exactly the same thing to Greg at Jeff's place the other week, "the shop manual makes No Sense to me at all".

Greg explained that you need to push the top of the 'clutch arm' to the left until you feel the release bearing in light contact with the thrust plate. Eg. there is movement in the arm before the release bearing actually starts to disengage the the clutch. So you push the arm to the left and set the adjusting nut with the 1.5mm clearance so that you remove the excess movement.

Another possibility is that you have the otherthrow locking nut done up too tight. It basically stops the clutch arm from putting Too Much pressure on. The sentence about holding the clutch, tighting up the overthrow nut and then backing it out two flats (I think?) is pretty straight forward. Make sure you've got the adjustable stop set correctly first though.

Dewey.............. don't have the overthrow nut and locking nut on atm........... was concentrating on getting the release lever correct before worrying about the overthrow nut.

And yes those manuals suck ass dewey :evil:

You're not going to destroy your car without having those lockers on for a little while. If my post above makes sense, do that and you should have reasonably high clutch and certainly enough to engage the gears. Do that, drive it over to Matty R. (I think he said he's got some lock nuts for you in the other thread) and then ask him to check your adjustment.

As he'd say.... easy peasy?
