okaydokay, well i have my lovely new motor back and this one is going to last me long time! i willlook after it and change her oill regularly, but initially, what brand of running in oil does everyone use??? and i know after spealking with graham russell he says just to use kmart oil for subsequent top ups as this is just shell oil repackaged but a lot cheaper cos it is "no name" but what oil do people use in thier already run in minis as well??? i use shelll for older engines usually or other oils for worn engines (cos i have only ever had a worn ngine!!!) but now that i have reco gearbox and motor, there is no need to use worn engine oil.....what to use (coswt is no objective btw, only the best for my girl!!!! |

I'm running my 1360 in at the moment, using valvoline SF 20W/50. $10.99 at Supercheap. I'll dump it at 300 miles or so, but it's not bad stuff... oil pressure hot is good:- 70psi, 45 at idle.. ![]() |

After run in, any `name brand' 20W/50 is OK. I was using Castrol 25W/50 (Formula R) in the 1310 before, but will stick with Valvoline 20W/50 while the 1360 is `new'. ![]() You can go a bit thicker on older worn engines, but watch it- I once tried some Penrite HPR50 (40W/70) and the primary gear wouldn't let go of the crank & stop! I could NOT get any gears with motor running, even when stationary. ![]() Penrite HPR 30 and HPR 40 are OK though. ![]() |

Pennzoil GT here.... for "turbo engines" dunno if it makes any difference, but the price is average and it doesnt seem to cause any hassles... Ran it in with this oil, dropped it after 30 mins, replaced, dropped at 100 miles, replaced, dropped it at 500 miles, repalced.. now change every 2000 miles..... its usually just changed colours froma nice honey to a light caramel.... its a short-run engine, not many long trips, so frequent oil changes are normal.... Cheers J |
