Post subject:  VIN number on a 75 clubby..

ok, i have just realised what a stupid arsed tool i am... before the subframe went in, i went a little crazy with the grinder, after cutting the inner guards out, and the right angled section thats between the radiator and the inner guard..

now i need to know, is that the vin number there? because i think i might have threw it out.. is the vin number on the id plate? and would it be posible to just stamp th enumber on the inner guard and hope for the best? or is it time to start looking for a new shell?

stupidest mini owner of the year?

NFI really...
If you have the embossed VIN plate I would contact Qld Roads or whoever your authority is, explain what has happened. If they are satisfied it's still the same car (ie. yours) they may be able to organise something.

Is the car registered?
Do you have rego papers? (even if it is not registered)
Do you know the old number?

You should be able to get a new number from the QLD roads if you can prove the car is yours.

The new Falcons have a sticker for a Vin plate so that they are tamper proof. Car yards are washing them off with pressure washers by accident!

There are ways around these problems, just talk to the rego authorities.

for motorsport , not for road, UNLESS it has a new number assigned to it.

Yes.

Just for a laugh, ring up a Ford dealer and tell them you washed the engine on a BA Falcon and washed off the VIN sticker!

the id plate is still in its original position, ive never touched it, and it is quite clear it hasnt been removed due to all the layvers of paint, and the rivits to... ive found some old rego papers with the vin number on it, the vin is on the id plate, shouldnt be to much worries, i asked the guuys at work (who roadworthy cars) and they said, restamp it.. if anything happens later, i can allways confirm its the same car through the original owner...

see what happens anyway
