My uncle was showing me this thing the other day he put in his classic car.
He was having cooling issues that were coming from a blocked radiator, so he put one of these filters in. Simply clean it out every week or so and no problems since.

I'm still looking for a little 1 inch unit that would fit a mini, or even a 1/2 inch job in the heater hose citcuit would help.
Just thought some people might be interested to see it.

Looks better than a stocking shoved down the hose! if you get more info can you put it on here please? How fast does the water flow in a radiator? Would this slow it down too much?

I don't think the filter itself would be a problem, if you're concerned over flow you'd buy a size or two bigger for it and try and obtain a hose reducer.
The bigger problem is it's supposed to go on the top radiator hose and catch the crap before it gets in, but I sure know in my car there's no room for it.

That pic ob my bini won't last much longer, got some good ones over at the Mill so I will update it later.

the rad itself slows the water flow through naturally,,,

socks are ok, for initial few days of running but then once all the crap has heat baked itself out of the block & head, Dumped it all into the sock,,, then usually they`re clean enough (after removing the sock & flushing what`s left out)

not a bad idea tho,,, probably pay to check it in the first few days tho,,, you won`t want it to block up completely

LOTS of V8 guys run them, and as far as i'm concerned, they can't all be wrong!

Why is there stuff in your cooling system that needs filtering? Run some chemical cooling system cleaner in there and run the car for a few hours. Flush and fill with proper coolant and you should be set.

That'll clean it a bit, but there'll still be crud left over which will come loose over time.

Mine was hot tanked and I've only ever run coolant in it, but every now and then I still spot something in the top of the radiator. Iron rusts

we run one of these in our burnot car, amazing how much crap ends up in there from a brand new car and cooling system that is regularly flushed mainly gasket goo!

I run them on the alloy Rover V8 engines and on the wife's car too which has an alloy head. Clean them out every month, and there are sometimes a few bits of crud stuck in the gauze filter.

May tel the old man about this, - his 3.9 V8 LR Disco had 10% flow remaining throught the rad when he bought it !

top idea IMHO. I saw them the other day. What I am thinking, is that I would like to run one with a brand new motor for the first couple of hundred clicks and then remove it,,, reason being that even though i spend the best part of a full day cleaning the block before I assemble, the water jackets always make me worry,,, they're bloody hard to clean and you can't get everywhere,,, so I don't see any need to run them full time, because the coolant circulates and not in an environment where any new contaminents can get in there, so once you get the bits you missed when you were cleaning out, nothing new should get in there,,,

What do ya reckon?

Leave it on, i'd say.

Too easy just to clean out the filter once every oil change and she's all good.
