Post subject:  Keys

I lost my keys the other day. Is getting new keys to fit easy or do I need to replace all the barrels and get new keys to fit them? How do I do that considering I'm now locked out of my car?

Get all the mini owners who live around you to try their key's , there are only a few combinations (not like modern keys) and there's a good chance you'll find some that fit .

Some mini parts guys used to keep a box of keys hanging around, it was a case of matching the number stamped onto the barrel and the key.

Locksmiths can create a key if needed as well pretty easily. Mini keys weren't that cunning in design.

There could be some who read this and get some funny 'bad' ideas.

The same ideas they already have for most pre 1980 cars anyway , besides , there are quicker ways to get into a mini without a key or damaging glass or paint but I'm not going to mention them here

From memory 850 key's had 24 combinations , this went up to 36 with the locks used in windup window doors . Later mini's had the same number of combinations for the door locks but the ignition locks were much more complicated so there were a few hundred combinations for them . You still stand a pretty good chance of finding someone with a key that will work for you moustache .
