| Post subject: | Long range fuel tank |
I have found a few references to long range fuel tanks and to be honest, have never heard of them. That is unless they are just the larger 7.5 gallon tank in later models vs 5.5 gallons in teh earliers models. So I was wondering - Were they a factory option? - What volume are they? Are they bigger than the rover EFI tanks? - Are they like a normal tank, just wider? If so, how much wider? - Can you still fit a spare wheel in the boot with one fitted? - Do they use the same sender as the standard tank? -Alan |

The 7.5 gallon (35 litre ?) tank was fitted to the 1275LS here so it is a local fitment as well as being used on the Rover mini's , a spare tyre will still fit in the boot with it but not a super wide or big one (don't even think of trying to fit a 13" X 7" in there) . |

some one here might be able to fill in even more gaps again... but.... the rover ones (some of em) had an internal fuel pump,,, so while the internal volume was the same, some of it is ""robbed"" by the fuel pump being in there |

The BMC Comp Dept had a single Left hand 13.5 gallon alloy tank. I think they were offered under ST to the public, but I've only ever seen pics. It did look like you could run a RH tank as well....just in case it's a long way between towns................. Spare wheel...I'd say yes, Sender.......yes, standard one Didn't quite look like a wider tank, most of the 'extra' bit was higher up so you could put the spare wheel and a jack under it. |

you are taking the piss aren't you. I dont run a central oil pickup because it takes up too much oil room in the sump. |

ive got one of the larger ones..i was told it was a long range tank..but i gues its the rover one.35ltrs.....i got about 230km out of it running my 1293 cc mild cam extracotrs.. weber etc....i was just happy to be able to get from melbourne..doncaster east.. to the macas on the hume frwy.....as befour i updated it i had to take a jerry can... |

Na, I was actually told about that by John at Mini King when I was asking him about the exact same thing for my LS. He actually pointed out that in some of the later ones that the pump was inside and that it took up enough room to be worth mentioning? Thats why I was saying that someone might know more about it. has anyone actually pulled one out and had a look? I have no idea how big they are. |

According to the workshop manual I have "Estate, Van & Pick-up" are 6 gallons (27 Litres). I would assume this covers the Traveller as well |

Early travellers had the standard mini sedan tank so 24ish litres , then they went to the van tank at 27ish litres . Where is your fuel filler NG ? |

I've heard that the later SPI tanks from the rovers have a larger outlet diameter than the 1275LS tank (which my car had) and hence are more desirable for modified engines if you want to increase the size of the supply line to a weber/1.75 SU or similar. The capacity I would imagine is the same (save for the internal fuel pump where fitted  )

the EFI Mini fuel pump is not that big. around 15cm long and 4,5cm diameter.
