Post subject: | Wiper park position |
This has got me stumped. Some mini's have the wipers park on the right and some on the left. I know some UK minis have the holes for both positions. Now the curious thing is that I am looking at buying a 67 Cooper S and the wipers park on the right. I thought all OZ minis parked on the other side. Does any know/understand the logic in the Australian cars? Anyone??? |

I've been going through all my photos and this is what I seem to have worked out so far: MK1 Cooper S - wipers all park to the right MK2 Cooper S - wipers all park to the left Clubmans - wipers all park to the left. All other Mini's post 68 - wipers park to the left. Now non Cooper S pre 68 seems to be totally inconsistent. Some on the left and some on the right. Just in case I ever get asked this question on a Mini trivia night.... I'm curious to know the answer. |

I understood that wipers on all Mini's until the Mini K parked in front of the driver. Mini K onwards parked in front of passenger. No? |

As far as I know all MK1/2 Cooper S's had their wipers park on the drivers side. I'm pretty sure this applies to all MK1/2 saloons (RHD on the right and LHD on the left). The confusion in the UK started after the MK3 bodyshell - Oz minis were only ever made in MK1/2 or clubman forms. |

Oz Minis all parked on the right until `68, when they changed to the locally made scuttle panel with the recesses in it, then they parked left. This panel is the same as used on Clubbies until the end. Note- the little rubber `escutcheon' thingys are different angles. Early ones are still available ex UK, but the later Oz ones are no more. ![]() I'm going to make some S/S ones, but still haven't got a round tuit. ![]() |

Simple really, at some point in 68 they changed from right to left. There was some confusion with some ring-ins and I think they were imports pretending to be earlier models because of the sliding windows. |

yea sorry kev. I should know mine is a left hand park. Are you talking about the little plastic thingy between the wiper nut and the scuttle panel? I've been trying to find a the sucker in good nick for eons. I'll buy a dozen - no make it a two dozen - no just two would be great when you get to it. |

well ther you go... i got a coffee jar full of these rubber/plastic scuttle thingies recently and wondered why there were different ones, kind of figured the bigger version would be more suitable for the recess in Kay though.. does that mean they had a longer shaft protruding through the scuttle (for the wiper arm)?? ie a different wiper arm driveon the recessd scuttle versions.. |

Yep they do. When I was restoring my 67 S I sent some off to get chromed for some bling and then I realised they wouldn't fit. ![]() ![]() |

Yes. If you buy UK Bling! ones like I did (U can get in LH or RH park) you have to bend the LH park ones to fit Oz cars. No big deal though- put in vyce and pull... ![]() |
