Saw this

Image

Don't know price as the bloke was asleep when I went passed. This he may have been from Ararat.

Saw a bloke walking out with a NOS mini front panel. complete with diagonal front brace. It had $250 written on it.

Bought these on the way out. Some out you blokes may know more about them. He was telling me you got them free back in the 60's when you filled up with petrol at Shell. He was also telling me he use to race a Morris 1100 (I think).

Not quite free , they were the equivalent of $2 when you bought a tank of fuel from Shell , not super rare but getting hard to find in good condition . They were originally in a cardboard box with a large plastic window on the front and top sides too but I've only ever seen one in it's original box . Do the friction drive motors still work in them ?

Hi Sports,

The bloke probably remembers them being free as a kid because his dad probably paid for them. :D

One of the friction drives works. Would I be better to make one car out of two as both are missing parts, but there would be enough parts to make a complete example?

Nice find with the models, let me know if you want to sell one! I was there all day too. Bloody hot. I looked for models all day and the only ones I found in the hall were either way too expensive or I already had them. Had the luxury of going up there in a new Mini Cooper S. Air con on the way home was good, the temp showed 39.9 outside when we got in the car. Would have cooked if I went in my car like last year. I didn't buy a thing (except lots of cold water) but my mate who also has minis got a couple of small items. He spotted two old BMC red/white/blue stripped tins. One was car polish and I cant remeber what was in the other but I will take a pic and post later. He has an oil tin collection so it was a nice find. The speedway mini didn't have an engine but had extractors still. He said he bought it for a few hundred and said a few people were interested in buying it as a dispaly car. Said hello to one happy mini bloke walking out with a head and an instrument surround. I saw a MKII S instrument panel complete for $450! Might have to insure mine. It was a great day as always. Someone bought this mini for $800-.

I thought one of these would look good behind a mini but for $5K I might make my own! Would need smaller wheels. Weighed 220kg's.

I got some GT rims, and a cupla sets of cooper S rims, 2X reco cyl heads, S/mini K binacle, pair of sliding window doors, pair of wind up doors, 2 bonnets, english 850 bootlid, chrome engine steady bars and engine bay bracketry, cooper bonnet badge, cooper s brake master cylinders, master cylinder extensions, and not one ounce of sunburn!

That racing mini has a cut down morry 1100 front end, with morry 1100 disks etc, bloke wants offers over $1500. no history used to run a honda motor... not too much left that you can do with it unless u run in the "butchered" class, as its had exhausts running thru the cab etc!...been forsale for atleast a year, dont know why it hasnt sold? hahah

   Quite likely , mind you , they were so close to being free anyway when you think of $2 compared to $60 or so to fill an average family cars tank (talking current prices of course , can't remember the pre decimal price of them exactly but it was a bit more than buying an average newspaper at the time) .

Jim , how much did he have on the speedway mini , would make a nice display piece if you had the room .

Just saw reply above. Well done Mini Mulisha on all that! Pays to get there early and know what you are looking for. I was really only looking for models and came home empty handed with a pocket full of cash! I nearly bought a generator (just in case I ever want to go back to fully original) but it had the wrong year on it so I left it.
