Hi I want to hear what you think. If one was to own a Leyland mini and someone else was to own a Leyland mini S and someone else was to own a mini clubman.. Is there much difference when you a) go to sell it b) Talk about it at a show (higher standard.. “oh yes I own a …”) c) Collectable I know that cooper s and clubman GT or mini GT's are more collectable and popular but what about my above example??? Thanks

Its all a bit subjective really , a low K original early 72 Hydrolastic Clubman will be worth more than a 75 Mini with a $5000 motor, we are in a market at the moment when Clubman's/Mini's are coming on the market and the owner is trying to recover the cost of restoration/modification which has artificially pushed the price of Clubman's/Mini's up past $6,500 . The price of pre 71 cars has increased inline with parts support and market knowledge . Original Pre 64 850's are currently the stongest market in terms of real growth. People who rebadge cars as something else run the risk of having a car that's harder to sell, consumers are more prepared to question the condition/ originality / quality of restoration and will only pay a fair price in line with their assessment of the vehicle. . |

In my opinion the badge really means next to nothing to anyone who is simple buying a "Mini". Unless of course it is a Cooper, Cooper S or a GT which command higher values for the obvious reasons and truly are collector cars in their own right. But an 850 isn't going to be worth much more or less than a DeLuxe (but an 850 might be more desirable due to the novelty factor of the little motor and the sliding windows, but this depends on the buyer). And a Leyland Mini isn't going to be any different to a Leyland Mini S. Might have been the case 30 years ago, but features are not what makes a Mini good. It's the overall car. Now many will disagree with this, but in my opinion, for example a 1275LS isn't really worth much more than a Clubby with a 1275 motor and discs to the average Mini buyer who wants a Mini with a bit more grunt than a 998. Of course the older buyer might feel different but the young blokes, for example...me... don't look at the badges when we look at a Mini we look at the finish of the paint. We look at the quality of the interior and we look (and listen hehehe) at the motor and of course don't forget the brakes! |

An original 850 is now pushing 9 to 13 thousand due to rarity ( as in low survival numbers ) A base model Leyland Mini is not the same as a Leyland Mini S !!!!!! . |
