Called in to a Shell servo today to fill the AU Fraud up with 91.
Went to the 91 unleaded pump (yellow) as usual .
Has new label on, "this servo conforms to current NSW Gov mandate for unleaded fuels and now has 10% ethanol content" or words to that effect.
So much for peoples choice, ie E10 or not.
Oh yeah it also says "unsuitable for marine craft and lawnmowers" or something. I guess they now have to get ripped 15c more to run 95 Premium instead...
E10 is no good in outboards due to corrosion issues, according to Evinrude and others.

How long before Caltex Woolies follows suit...

Ummm, I pointed this out last year in my thread about the fuel hose on my Morris, the one that split after one tank of E10 when I couldn't buy regular unleaded.

Yep I'd be worried about using pre-unleaded spec fuel hose anywhere in the system if running E10.
With no E10 pumps left there selling at a discount, I bet the price of this `standard E10 unleaded' will magically climb 3c too.

Why weren't we asked if we wanted this crap.....

We were asked and we voted for it.

Yer Great Advertised price out the front is E10 with a Shop-A-Docket and if you dont want your fuel system to fail you, you have less of a choice and you will have to pay an additional 5 cent's extra per liter. And when they did give us 100 it wasn't really and if you could find it.
I should use E10 and log it and then the can pain for my engine repaired

There is a lot more than 5c/L difference between 91 (either sort) and 95.
98 is even MORE... 15c in some places.

When I rebuilt the Moke I made sure all the hoses were Ethanol OK.

However I dont think teh fuel pumps like it.

well yer totally agree Kev actually I paid 25c more for 95 on top of the advertised price out the front.
They are just using the same old trick as they do with their other retail outlets. Show a cheap bottom line price but if you want better take your luck

At least in Queensland it appears ethanol-free unleaded will continue to be available, unlike NSW..

I hired a rental car from Coolangatta airport last year, and had trouble finding an ethanol-free unleaded pump then.
Probably even worse now.

Hate to admit this, but I find 3 things good about E10 compared to regular 91 unleaded:
1. The AUII Ford seems to prefer it- starts better, runs smoother, more oomph down low.
2. It doesn't seem to evaporate out of the tank as quick during periods of non-use.
3. It is (for now) 3c/L cheaper.

Check this link out, although I realise that this is completely independant to this particular car, I find that some cars will actually get better efficiency out of different fuels. When I drove a Toyota echo, I actually could drive roughly 10% further on a tank with Premium 95 than regular 91, considering 10% was about 12-15c/litre, there was no question what was better efficiency, and E10 is worse. But with the commodore, there is less/if any difference that I have noticed between 91 and 95. I have never used E10 in my commodore (on purpose at least).
