Hi guys, I have two questions that are related to my current engine rebuild. The bore has been checked and only needs a hone. As it is a 1275 with 60thou bore, what size is the engine? Also, the engine is being balanced and the flywheel lightened. Unfortunately I need a new one piece steel flywheel. Can this come from any sized motor eg 998, 1098 or does it have to be from a 1275. If this is the case, does anyone have one in good condition that they want to sell me? Thanks in advance. |

Why do you need a one-piece flywheel specifically? I would have thought the two-piece would be suitable too. As far as I know (and I could well be wrong) it doesn't matter where the flywheel comes from, especially if you're getting it lightened and balanced. |

Hi Ryan, Your engine is a 1330. And regaring your flywheel,,, the crank sizes are different betweent the 1275's and the small bores,,, but I don't know if the effects the tail on the crank though,,, (I only have 1 small bore engine and I haven't rebuilt it nore can I remember the last time I built one) I tend to think it does effect the flywheel though.. Some one will correct me if I'm wrong so don't worry

Engine builder requested a one piece.....I guess he prefers them....and I trust him. So Phat Kat.....you reckon small bore and big bore have interchangeable flywheels. Thanks for checking. Does anyone have a one piece steel one that they want to sell......I'm in Wollongong, but will be in Sydney from Friday arvo till Sunday evening. |

all flywheels from 1965 on are interchangeable, smallbore or large. NONE ARE STEEL!. They are grey cast iron. (the 2 piece ones do have a steel centre). If you want a STEEL flywheel it is aftermarket, from UK. |

Thanks for clearing that up doc. I just presumed it was steel. So its just a one piece one that I'm after than. Are they preferable? The engine builder wants to use it so that he can balance and lighten. Does this sound correct or have I got my wires crossed? Does anyone have one I can buy? |

I lighten either the 1 piece or 2 piece the same way. No difference IMO. TheMiniMan only lightens 2 piece, he won't touch the 1 piece. But he puts friggin great holes in `em, I just turn them in the lathe a la Vizard. Whatever, don't make them too thin, cast iron isn't real strong, tensile wise. Remember where it is, imagine what external personal components you might lose if it goes BANG at 8000rpm+
