Post subject:  Twins vs Webber
What are the real differences between su's and webbers. My van has a modified firewall to house a webber. I am in the process of restoring the shell and am contemplating the removal of this mod - what do you all think?

A weber would be my choice. Easyer to tune, will stay in tune, more power. 8)

I would keep it unless you're trying to get back to super originality (which is fine if thats what you want). Otherwise you're putting time/effort into negating the time/effort somebody else put it. It's a nice option to be able to run a weber.

Webbers are noisier but more power??? How much do they sell for? and if i do keep the webber mod what options do i have for my dash and instruments?

You could put a full length dash out of a Rover in, with rover guages. 8)

If it's a Clubbie, I'd keep the Weber box. If a roundie and you want the centre speedo, lose the box.

Oh BTW you can get Dellorto carbs too, they go/look/sound like a Weber but are cheaper to get S/H. :wink:

In a nutshell: Webber = More power but louder. Twins = Less power but quiet

If you already have a box cut and installed then webber or dellorto for sure! you can then fit in a longer type manifold for extra horses. The main reason why some people don't go webber (other than price) is the need for firewall mods. Since it's already done, no worries!

Go on, go webber, it'll go harder! :wink:

I dissagree, i have a sprite with a 1275 a series motor in it, i have had a 45 weber on it, 'tuned on a dyno' however i am now running twin 1 3/4 su's on a custom mainfold.
what poeee said about more power is crap. they twin su's produced more BHP on the dyno than the 45 weber, however the weber had better all round drivability.

As far as tuning, both were done on the dyno at elfin sports car's.
The talk that twin su's are hard to tune isnt true i believe, and if they are setup right they wont go out of tune anyquicker, than any other carby. it is only if they are not a matching set are they untunable.

a back yard mechnic 'your self' will be able to tune twin su's, however weber I Believe are a little more complex.

I will keep the webber mod for now, while I check out some prices. Rover dash sounds interesting going on search for some pics now, any suggestions?

Geez - thems fighting words. Agree to disgree - depends on your flavour I suppose. I tend to agree with pooee(since I too have gone to the dark side with 40 DHLA). I am getting 15-20 percent more out of the car OVER the twin inch and a quarters and maintaining 40mpg!!

Yep 40DHLA is a Dellorto. Were commonly used on Alfas, so plenty about.
I run a 45DHLA.
I find Dellortos (or Webers) easier to tune than SUs- you do not need to wade thru pages of needle specs to find the one that works for you.
eg. running a little lean? just go up a size or 2 in the main jets, or reduce the air correctors- depending on where it's lean. :wink:

Thanks for the info, still can't find a photo of a rover dash. Are they those wooden glove box models?
