hi all i am having a bit of a problem burning out the no 4 exaust valve this is the 3rd this year now i know there is other problems with the motor as in the rings are on there way out hence going through about 1 litre of oil every 100km i know it does need a rebuild but finances wont allow me the pleasure at the moment and i need to keep this car on the road for a little while longer at least any ideas are greatfuly accepted Peter. |

My thoughts. Burnt oil = carbon carbon under valve = burnt out valve perhaps #4 is the worst burning and hence creating the most carbon If I am right the only way to "fix" it is to rebuild properly. Steve |

Fix valve, then decoke every few weeks using the water trick to prevent such a carbon buildup. |

no problem the rebuild i think will be the only fix unfortuantly im going to have to patch it up till i get another car which hopfully will be in a fortnight till then i can just hope it will get me to work and back peter. |

What is the water trick? Is that spraying water into the carb throat with engine running? |

yep, but in small amounts i.e. a spray bottle, not a garden hose. |

Yeah but if he used the garden hose he would not have to worry about a burn't valve, just broken &/or bent everything else |

I just did some googling and found this page which described a mechanic hooking up a hose to the vacuum port with the other end in a bottle of water ![]() |
