Hey, I have a really silly question but what is the trick to tightening up the nuts on the fuel pump while everything is in place? i just brought a new mech. pump and am trying to put it in and i cant get anything in there to do up the nuts. Thanks Blake |

Hmmm, I did it with everything in place. I think I just used a socket with a smallish extension. Or did I modify a spanner? I can't remember. How did you get them undone in the first place? |

I didnt put one on when i put the engine back in the car. I was going to use an electric pump but its not running right so i thought id try a new mech. pump. But yeh all the extensions i have a to long but the socket by itself is to small and i cant get a spanner in there so i dont know what else to try |

If it is the Goss pump like the Deluxe/K/Clubman used (and not the pommie pump from the later Minis) it is a bugger to get the spanner on the bolts. My trick was to cut the webbing on the body of the pump to give more spanner turning room. You can break the bit out with a small shifter and tidy it up with a file. Once you do this it is very easy to do the bolts up. |

I have a 1/2" Sidchrome stubby ring/oe spanner I cut in 1/2 and welded into an L shape. I then ground the daylights off the ring bit to make it uber-thin, also flattened the shank so there's no angled offset from the ring. I use it normal side up to do one nut, then flip it over to do the other one. A 1/2", 1/4 drive socket fits OK in there too. |
