Guys, after reading the today tonight story, I am wondering what IS the best fuel I can use for engine life and performance?

I just had the engine rebuilt but I didnt get the head converted to run ULP (although I did ask for that to be done, person rebuilding found out it would cost around $500 so abandoned the idea without even consulting me ) - and that was with the head already off

anyway, I have a rebuilt engine, no hardened seats, what do I fill it up with?
and what (if any) additives are a must?

Premium unleaded with flashlube.

Flashlube is about $18 for a litre. Easy to use, just 1ml per litre of fuel.

I wouldn't even bother with converting a head, especially if there is nothing at all wrong with it.

Flashlube will also clean the inside of your engine, so should keep everything from your carbie jets to the spark plugs clean (unless, of course, the engine is in pretty bad shape).

so I could safely put BP ultimate in it, and no need for additives?
That Flashlube sounds good though.. two options great

No U use flashlube as well as the higher octane petrol. I see u havent bought the mini eperience magazine which has an article in it explaining the different fuels and additives.

you could also use Nulon lead substitute, its the same thing as flash lube, but about a dollar cheaper, i have tried both and found no difference. i find using the higher octane fule gives me much better perfomance and fuel consuption.

All I know is that Nulon put that on the market to compete with flashlube. A flashlube imatation. Flashlube is tried and tested, eh doc? (no doubt he will read this post, hehe)

need both of these:

1. good fuel (bp ultimate)

2. flashlube (even if you have unleaded seats, there are other parts in your engine that need the flashlube. it cleans the tops of pistons too, after pulling off the head this week you can see the metal on my piston heads under a thin layer of coke)

You can get a unleaded conversion for about $200 at Mini Spares & repairs in Castle Hill.


I have have this done to my mini and put in PB Ultimate and my car loves the stuff.

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

Moreys and Lucas both do a Kit like that I think they call it a Power Booster Kit and is sucked through the Manifold By Vacum Only thing this does not do is clean the Jets in Carbys as it is not flowing throught the fuel line.

Hey Kev - is FlashLube the same stuff that was around when we were kids that was called "Upper Cylinder Lubricant"? Used to be available in the Oil Rack at the servo's in a container that was a steel cone with a thing like a glass hypo syringe mounted horizontal on the top with a long thin nozzle about 9 inches long. You drew up a "dose" in the glass barrel then squirted it in the tank before filling. Cost about 5 cents a squirt.
Disappeared off the driveways along with the glass refillable Oil bottles.

The flashlube one (not sure if you're getting it mixed up on these other products) is in the fuel line, and is "driven" by vacume (manifold for eg.). So it does the same as it would if you squirt into the tank.

Personally i'm happy with squirting the stuff into the tank, doesn't bother me in the slightest (tho may bother the people waiting for the pump, hehe!).
