Does anybody know the torque for the castled nut that secures the front hub?

Disc is 150 ft-lb from memory, drum is 60 ft-lb.

Tighten to the recommended torque, then keep going until the split pin hole lines up.

Yes - 150 for Discs

and recheck them after youve done a good 500-1000kms, they will free up a little and may need retightening.

60lb/ft is all the drum CVs can stand, as the thread is much smaller.
I have seen people pull the thread clean off! :shock:
So use 60lb/ft, even if you have converted them to Timken roller bearings.

If unsure what you have, the drum nut is 1-1/8" hex size, the disc nut is 1-5/16" or 34mm hex size.

Depends on the CV, i bought two new ones this tour, and one is 1 1/8" and the other is 1 1/4" so i have two different nuts on the front hubs

If it was torqued up to 150ft-lb and then you keep going, how much would that increase the torque to - since you're tightening it MORE to line the holes up?

Dunno, but that's how it's been done since time began. If your bearing preload is correct, it won't matter anyway.

My brother thought it was wrong once and backed off to the previous hole, then wondered why he kept breaking split pins and (very nearly) losing wheels.

Early disc CVs had 2 split pin holes. New ones only have 1.
The current specs say torque to 150, then tighten to the next hole. It will be below 190 and that is OK.

I find it amazing the difference in torque (ie strength of CV's & thread) between drums & discs!
