Post subject:  Kent 266 cam? and 1.5 roller rockers

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this cam.
It's going into a 1275 with 60 thou o/s, twin 1/2 inch S.U.s

Thank for any feedback.

p.s. I did put a topic heading in!!!!!!!

Apologies for the edit.

I have just been surfing various UK articles and the quote Vizard saying that a 266 cam should ideally be married with 1.5 lift rockers. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have a view?

thanks again!

I'm about to run with the Kent 266 Cam. According to Vizard, he did a lot of development on these Cams for Kent and they were actually 'designed' (to use the term a little loosely) to be used on a 1275 with 1.5:1 Rockers.

IMO, on paper at least, in a 1275 it does provide for a very very road drivable mini without going overboard (been there and done that).

Mate, thanks so much. I was thinking I was in the wrong forum for a while there!

The cam is in the motor, the carbs are bolted on and I am simply very interested if I have the right kit. Appreciate any feedback.

Nice road cam, makes smooth power, clean idle

The only thing with them is make sure its ground correct and check its opening and closing when it should.

There was a guy in Germany who had three that where all different. like 1 and 2 cylinders where correct but 3 &4 where not.

Did it say anything about that cam and 1.5 lifters?

**** if I know how I can check if it's a good grind. Above my pay level

sorry i was specifically refering to the 266 cam.

Agree works better with 1.5 rockers

Graham russell detailed how to check a camshaft in one of the Mini exp mags a while back as part of building a 998 motor.

The point i was making was that its a good cam but needs to be ground properly to be great

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. Now what is a good 1.5 buy these days?

I have the Kent MD266... Ready to go into my car, one day when it makes its way
back together.
One day soon I hope the car is even in the shed!

minispares forged 1.5 seem to be the most accurate out of the ones i tested
and the best value for money and quality

I've been using the Mini Spares Roller Tip (not full roller) for a while now and I have found them very good. They don't seem to put too much side force on the valve stems and so the guides do last.

I think the full roller versions are a poor choice. I also feel the the non-roller tip versions would work OK but for the difference in price the roller version will give much longer guide life.

I would not advise using the (UK) mini sport version.

I once saw a set of UK Minisport ones get flats on the rollers in 10,000km from new. Once this happens they are useless.
They may be better made now, I'm not sure.

So Doc, any knowledge of the OZ Minisport versions? Or are they the UK ones with gross up?

Pretty sure the ones sold by Minisport SA are the Minispares ones. Which are OK, everybody says...
Ring Andrew and ask, to be sure, to be sure....

GR is currently grinding a 266 for my 60thou over 1275. This is the thread that I have started http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... ight=motor
it has no mention of rockers....but this has me intrigued. Maybe I need to look into it further/ chat to my engine builder.
