Random, but at least the topic heading there! Has anyone used them? What do folks think of lightening the sprung weight in the rear? I gear a number of racers use them but are they any good for a reasonably fast road car? Thanks in advance. bam |

I dont have them, but they do work & lightening the unsprung mass is always a good thing. Braking will be unchanged - even drums can lock up the rear easily. They don't like repeated use for handbrake turns, so no suitable for khana cars. In a road car, there are a lot more areas to remove weight from first. |

Well I figure removing weight from my wallet counts! I also reckon the rust and muck cut out to be replaced by genuine metal must count. Other than tha, for a road car, what can ya do ![]() |

I'd actually suggest look first at where the majority of the weight is - at the front - first, then start look elsewhere. |

you could always put alloy trailing arms and alloy minifin type drums on and save heap more weight if you like lightening your wallet |

A bit off topic, but I have always wondered how to set up a hydraulic handbrake for the rear end, and if it interferes with the ordinary braking function? |

Or fit the KAD alloy rear arms ...and then fit the KAD alloy hubs, discs, etct etc..along with a carbon fibre boot lid, boot floor, era bumper (or just do away without one entirely). Just how light do you want your wallet to be ![]() Cheers, Ian |

It can be done 'seamlessly'. Standard Hydralic Foot Brakes will work normal and the cable hand brake (if you still retain it) will also work normal. |

Try searching for hydraulic handbrakes in the search. Its basically another master cylinder that is plumbed into the rear brake lines. This master is then activated by a lever that can lock the rear brakes hydraulically. |

I have a set on my Mini. They are much lighter than the drums and are still more than capable of locking up the rears. A nice bit of engineering too ![]() But as awdmoke said they are not designed for handbrake turns or heavy rear brake bias or left foot braking... |
