ok here we go. i have a clubman and its got a few mods done to it.
I have always wanted to have a crack making 70's stlye a grill.
Heres my plan.I would like to make a grill for a clubman that uses slats like the roundnose minis.

Looks like a shortened VW Golf II grille...!?

There's a chap in the UK who's just done a similar grille... Not sure about the red stripe, though. Looks better without.

Been thinking about this very thing myself recently. :D

I'm thinking about doing a woven stainless mesh.

It all depends if you want to keep the light surrounds. Keeping the original light surrounds means that you only have to design a relatively straight middle bit. Getting rid of the light surrounds means that it has to be designed to go round the lights.

The biggest problem I can see so far is the slight angle in the middle. Off by a few degrees and it will look s-house.

The one originally posted could easily be done by unscrewing the mini badge from the centre and then matt blacking all the grill. One tin of matt black paint and sorted!

yes i would defitinally keep the light surrounds.
I was think of making a frame using light steel(angle).
by looking at the standard grille its pretty much a frame with a center(kind of :) ).
Then fill it with some angled slats and weld it all togeather.
Keep us up to date if you decide to make one aye.CHEERS....

Try and get the grill of a Vauxhall Ventura 1969-70 cut a bit out of the middle and stick it in your mini. It looks sweet, I'm looking for grill at the moment too.

Why be so conservative? Try something like this!

The 1958 Buick grille cavity contained no fewer than 160 beveled, chrome-plated squares that looked like small kitchen-cabinet knobs. Each reflected light from four different angles to create a "dollar grin" that put Cadillac to shame. Flint marketers came up with a perfect name for this dazzle: "Fashion-Aire
