I bought a set of Metro brakes (second hand) with Mini hubs a while ago (with new ball joints) and have just pulled everything apart to sandblast & paint them. I just realised though that the swivel hub has no grease nipple. I thought all hubs had a nipple so you can re-grease the ball joints or have I got a set of Metro hub instead? |

I was told they were Mini hubs  I have been told by a few people that Metro hubs will cause as issue with my suspension geometry on my Mini? Should I be hunting out some Mini disc hubs to replace them ? I do have adjustable tie rods & camber arms btw.

Many people have fitted the Metro Hubs on Minis (I think a search will show some threads). These guys seem happy with them or at least that is what they wish to say. The Metro Hubs have a King Pin angle of 10.5 degree and the Mini's are 9.5 degree. Also the Metro's wheels for which the hubs where designed to be used with have a huge inset, the drive flange just about sits outside the rim. The Min wheels are more or less in the middle. This factor will load the wheel bearings as the wheels will actually be out-rigged from the bearings rather than sitting within. Sorry, I know this doesn't translate in to word too well. Also the ball joints on the metro haubs are further apart, so as the suspesion moves, the camber angle will change a lot, this does already happen on mini hubs but not to the degree that it will with metro ones. Fitted up out of the box (so to speak) the metro hubs will have a lot of positive camber on a mini, so yes, you will need to correct this. I know that others here (as said above) like them, but IMO it produces poor overall suspension geometry. |
