I never let them touch the wheel nuts. Last time I changed tyres I prefer to remove them by hand, hand over the wheel, put the wheel back on by hand myself. Call me nutty but those rattle guns + apprentices = trouble at 110km/h |

I recently took my wifes CX9 to the local tyre shop and the young fella there ran the rattle gun across the rim and scratched the hell out of it. I had been having a slightly crap day and this just made ot worse, I screamed bloody murder at the guy, his boss heard the comotion(when I get mad people in neighbouring suburbs hear me) and promised me a new wheel, had it in 48hrs for me. |

Good to hear it didn't end bad NG. I got off lucky recently too, left my house, drove about 1k to the local shops, all ok, left there and noticed a steering wobble, inside 500m it turned to a serious clunk/rumble. When i pulled over there was 1 nut left holding by a few turns, i found 2 of the missing nuts and put one from the rear to the front to get to work and fit a spare. I've seen wheel studs stripped and or stretched by people going at them with a rattle gun ![]() |

Crap Nick , you're not having a good run with your mini are you . Have you been back to the tyre place to let them know they let a vehicle out with loose nuts ? I've done the same with the sports850 though , driving it to work one morning , rattle rattle RATTLE RATTLE THUNK and the front left wheel shot off into a cane field . Tore the nut and threaded section of the bottom ball joint off on the road and ground a flat spot on the drum by the time it stopped sliding too . Fortunately the nuts were still in the hubcap so retrieved the wheeel , put it back on and drove to work . Jacked it up at work for a better look , saw the bottom ball joint was only holding on by the force of the taper and nearly keeled over .... EDIT , here's the photo I posted a while ago from it , it isn't the clearest but you can see the sheared off ball joint . ![]() |

i've had this happen twice, from two separate garages. bob jane and automasters. I now specifically say to them ' please check the wheels are attached and the nuts are done up' and they laugh at me. At automasters they laughed, then i picked up the magna got 200m down the road and heard the noise. Dumped my car on the side of the road and went back. Walked in and calmly asked if they knew who had donethe wheels and they told me. I asked if he was a complete f ing moron and if he had even ever seen a car in his life before. Then proceeded to scream at them for about 15 minutes,. In their defence the boss destroyed the guy infront of me, gave me four new disc rotors and gave my entire engine bay a degrese, they picked my car up on a truck brought it back and had it ready for me within the hour. |

PM me which one so I can avoid it like the plague. I'm happy to hear you caught it before it became a BIG problem!! Having said that, who on the northside can do a wheel alignment with 10" wheels? |

i did it myself, in a hurry to get to the roadworthy centre, didnt check the wheel nuts, got half way there sitting on 60k's on a dual lane town road and no wobble.. just a bang, scrape and watched my left rear wheel go bouncing past me into a telegraph pole... i just pitched the car to the left a bit and drove it on 3 wheels for 20 meters but it was quite handy that it happend out the front of the local ford dealer so i pulled in borrowed a jack and wheel brace, found 3 of the wheel nuts in the gutter did the wheel up and (obviously making sure there was no damage) and away i went slowly to work.. where i fixed it all up properly and the car passed its roadworthy ![]() |
