Fair enough too... some sort paranoia has crept in, causing normally sane
people to go mad.

MINI S . 022 D2S2M10/ 12628

ITS OF MY COMPLIANCE PLATE ...

022 = Leyland Mini S
D = Compliance code, probably to do with ADR27.
2S = 2 door saloon
2 = trim level 2.
M= 4 speed remote control Manual gearbox.
10 = 1098cc engine
12628 = Car number 12628.

where else in the moter bay or anywhere else be the number for the front end ?

The body number was only stamped in to the radiator cowling and there was another body type number stamped in to the firewall near the master cylinders. The body number also appears on the compliance plate.

If your inner gaurds have been cut out, then you have no body number.

That could be the Car number, which is what should be used for rego I believe?

On pre Jan 1970 yes, but on a 1974 clubbie, sorry to say no. The Body Number for Identfying the Bady on a 1974 Clubbie was only on the radiator cowling.

Morris 1100 wrote:
On a 74 the car number for rego is on the radiator shroud panel, it is the full 022D2S2M10/12345 number.
There is a number on the firewall near the master cylinder (between the master cylinder and the bonnet hinge) it is the body number and could be about 500 lower than the car number and it will be missing the prefix.
There will be a code next to the number that will be stamped something like...
M2
22 12345.

That's a good thing, at least we know that nobody pissed in paint when his car was made.

I do however have a question mark over his engine bores and head gasket. :mrgreen:

Don't do that Speedy, he will start his crap about Sports 850 badges again.

I thought they stopped making the Clubman in early 73?
Isn't a 74 a Leyland Mini?

If you think I am being picky the Clubman has a totally different body code system to a Leyland Mini. If you lump them all under the one name it will cause confusion when someone really does want info for a Clubman.
