Ey guys,
i just thought i would put this up as i don't really know too much about gearboxes and stuff, still new to minis and all the problems that come with them.
But i was driving along and my gearbox simply wouldn't let me into third gear. I mended the prblem by speeding up the revs through second and putting it into fourth then it let me back into thrid.
So i guess my question is....is this something i need to worry about? It hasn't happened since and that was wensdee afternoon...
Cheers in advance
-Brendon

It will really help us to know what type of gearbox you have.

A rod change gearbox will have 2 rods coming from the back of the gearbox to where the gear shifter is.

A magic wand gearbox will have the gearstick coming from a hole low in the firewall

A remote change gearbox will have a metal tube to the gear shifter from the back of the gearbox.

have a look and let us know what you find.

does it make any unusual noises since.

could have something floating in the gearbox that jammed up against that gear stopping you from selecting it. When you change gears did it grind third at all. Or just not select it.

Do a full oil change and see what crap is stuck to the magnet on the sump plug. Youll get metal fur like a xmas tree on the magnet, make sure theres nothing bigger than filings on it.

Commence worrying.

An indication the box is worn and begs for an overhaul. Areas of concern most likely are 1st motion shaft spiggott bearing, selector forks, syncro rings and undoubtedly the layshaft and bearings.

Nothing that can't be tackled without the help of the friendly staff of Ausmini

i wouldn't freak out about it exactly, i had that problem with my first mini, reco gearbox, sometimes i just didn't pull to the right enough when changing up, sometimes the clutch wasn't disengaging properly (most likely from me riding it/ not using it properly)

i would give it a wiggle and/or play with how you clutch/change .. see if anything works or doesn't work specificly. If it's definately a problem where you can't get in to 3rd then maybe you'll have cause for concern.

I have had that prblem before when i first got my mini, btu i have since learnt how to change gears without this problem but this was a completly different issue.

Cheers all
