mount it behind the crossmember to the floor

or make a bracket at the rear so it sits at the same height as the front and attach the front to the crossmember.

Crossmember must stay, as it's an integral part of the body structure, providing rigidity.

What brand / type of seat is it?? does it have an unusually thick seat base? To have to 'need' to remove the cross 'box' brace is quite unusual and with most comercially available seats it would actually make them a bit too low.

Any Pics say of the seat out of the car and then just placed wihin?

OK gotya. That appears to be a 'one size fits all' seat sub-frame. Do a search and see if you can get a seat sub-frame from the seat manufacturer to suit a mini. If they don't have them, Scheel Seats in Artarmon can make custom ones. Note that they need to be an approved frame (as does the seat), if it is for road use, so it is not something you can make at home. It may work out cheaper to off-load the seat and buy a new one, so check out costs.

Hey, I missed that !

How has it been mounted in this car? Has the box been cut, or is it sitting behind it?

No cutting allowed in Gp Nb.... :x :x :x It is Billet Velo Mounts with Billet Side Brackets on the seats and some aluminium raiser blocks, with nut plates under the floor. I originally had the velo brackets mounted straight to the floor, but the seat was to upright and too far back and sat too low, when i used the brakes or clutch my legs were at full strech, I'm 5'11 and a bit . so i did some changes, and bought it foward, and up. It sits on top of the tunnel or raised section, whatever you want to call it

this is the seat i have. as it sits now (if mounted) is too low and therefore the seat cant be forward enough due to the lip on the front is being stopped by the tunnel/brace. if i put it where its meant to sit the fiberglass sits on the brace member and the mounting points don't touch the floor.....any ideas?

It does look very similar to some of the Cobra and Saas seats. It might be worth looking at some of their seat sub-frames (although they should come from the same manufacturer. Is the car for road use?

I have a link somewhere that gives drawings of nearly every seat on the market with dimensions. I'll dig it up and send it.

If your in Sydney you can come round & see how i mounted my race seats, it's a pretty clever way of doing it.
