As the topic says oil drain valve. http://www.fumoto.com.au/
I think it is pretty good stuff. Perhaps not for the Mini(because of the magnetic part or our drain plug) but for other cars or bikes. I`ll get one for my bike (if the right size available) and I`ll post the review on that.

The main thing stopping me from getting one of these is that it would be soo exposed on a mini. One ill placed rock and snap - no more oil!

unsure really...drain plug is horizontal (but low) not not sure if it will get by many things. Magnet idea can be fixed by putting magnet on oil filter as many of us do...do. Thread size would be the issue more for me and cost

The magnet on the sump plug is very important. It really does need it. It sometimes does keep big bits out of the gears.
Adding a magnet to the oil filter only gets the little bits that get through the gauze strainer on the pick up.
The one on the plug will get bigger bits.

Another issue with this is your drain point will be higher by size of the wall thickness of the threaded section, than if you take the sump plug out totally. Would either have to increase the angle when draining the sump, or risk little bits of crap getting stuck against the wall of this new device...

excuse crap diagram!
