Most propably is not as bad as it first looks. At a guess, it was stored after doing several short runs or it may have a blown head gasket. In any event, you'll need to take the head off and dissassemble it. Send the bare head off to an engine reco shop and have it hot or cold tanked (cold is usually better, but they'll know which is best with what they have). Send the valves with it and have the lot serviced. With the head off, you can check your bores and that'll probably tell you if you need to go all out with an engine reco. I'd also suggest spliting the engine from the gearbox, just to check that no rust is down there either. If it's OK but a bit 'milky' looking, give it a real good wash with diesel. <EDIT> while it's split, whip a main bearing cap off to check the crank pins aren't rusty as well.... Oh, and find some new rocker gear. |

Change the oil and fire it up............... 
Is it attached to a gearbox??? Has the water gone downstairs????? It looks like its gone down the pushrod holes......... Good Luck!!! |

Clean as much crap out of the top/whats visible, give an oil change... run it for a little bit if everything is fine (ie water flow, oil pressure, valves are seating properly)... then go as you would have normally. It looks like a lot of it would just wipe straight off... she'll be right. |

At a minimum, I'd pull the head off, disassemble it and check/clean it all. That way you can see what the condition of the bores are too. But as Gtmowog said, splitting the box off and checking out the bottom end would be wise too. Cheaper and easier to fix it now rather than risking "seeing how it goes"... Let me know if you need a hand
