Hi AusMini, I have a 1974 Leyland Mini (atleast I thought it was). Ive had issues with the PCB, and have ordered and paid for another brand-new one, should be here by the end of the week, or start of the next. Anyway, I repaired a second hand one as best I could before I made a treck to Renmark for Christmas, and the whole mini performed great for its first big drive, roughly 480k's round trip. I knew the PCB wasnt 100%, so I accepted the fact I had no dash lights, but the indicators/head lights worked (good for now I thought). Right before I reached where I was staying (literally <1Km) my indicators went. Next day I noticed I had no fuel gauge, temp gauge, wipers, or washer bottle (all working prior). Got home, there was a blown fuse, simple replacement (thought Id found the issue, yay...). Things didnt work (fiddle sticks). So, I now have working: - Headlights and side lights. - Interior light - Horn - Washer bottle (???) - Heater blower motor I dont have working: - Indicators - Dash lights - Fuel gauge and temp gauge - Brake lights Is this a PCB issue, and will the replacement fix said light issues? The thing I keep going back to is the fact my dash is the three gauge clock variant, and I think im trying to run the wrong PCB, and an earth is wrong. So, one fuse terminal (according to my Leyland Mini Owners Instruction manual that came with the car ((original papers))) has the horn and interior light, which are working = yay for me. Second fuse terminal however, which book states protects the indicators, windscreen wipers, heater blower motor, and brake lights has two of those four things working (washer bottle and heater blower motor)! ANOTHER thing I found ****ed up on my mini, the multi-plug wiring connector was missing a plug in the number seven slot of the connector. I found it bent back and ducktaped (WTF?). THEN, I found the Tacho meter connections plugged into one-another? So, I have replaced the clock with a tacho I had spare from the same model car (long story), fixed the multi-plug connector to actually have all its fittings, and placed the tacho meter connections in the tacho, but it (the tacho), doesnt work (does this go back to the PCB again, with a wrong earth?). I just bought this mini, and really love driving it. These issues are giving me the willies (pun intended, my car is named willy). Ive bought the the Comprehensive Workshop Manual (black book?), and the Hayes '69-82 Owners workshop manual because I like working on my own cars. I dont want to take it to an auto-elecy, but will if I have to. ANy recommended? Can anyone see why im having issues? Should I just wait and see what the new PCB does? It started working with a new voltage stabilizer. Id like to say it came to me through hard investigation, but I just thought about it, tried it, and they work again! Still going to replace the PCB and get an Auto-electrician to look into it. |

Hi Ben, I would look at connections on Fuse box for corrosion first. This is one of those faults, unless one can look at the actual car and do some tests NO ONE can be any where near correct by guessing. It could actually be dangerous to try and help by guessing. I do not like to guess. It is a 30+year old car and in it's life anything could have been tempered with/modified or botched up. Take it to a sparky with at least some respect or knowledge for Minis or English cars. I would be more than happy to have a look at it for you if your were in My teritory. Good luck. |
