Did you order via snail mail or UPS? Stuff I've ordered from them via UPS usually takes 10 (ish) days,,, but being holiday season could take longer ?

I purchased over the web from Minispares a full SCCR gear kit with new everything for the gearbox, even a new mainshaft, syncro/selector hubs, selector forks, selector rod detent springs and plungers the works, the only thing original in the gearbox will be the selector rods and casing. I even changed diff ratio too. all i want now is for it to all turn up, ordered it on the 23rd so i am just hoping to get it early this week as i go back to work on the 11th. I'll put up a few pics when i get them. |

I had a set of wheels sent from Midland Wheels in the UK on the 29 Dec via UPS and they landed at Mascot about 1 hour ago. Stuff from Minispares normally gets here in 5-8 days. Cheers Pete |

well i have now got most bits from Minispares now, just waiting on a few more (mainshaft, crown wheel and pinion gear drop gears and a few bearings) but here are some pics of what i have got so far. hoping to have the box build up by next weekend, but still waiting on my new turbo manifold and a few other things to be completed before it goes back in the car.

In total for everything i have purchased, which is pretty much everything aside from Diff assembly as i already have a Quaife in it. its around $2200, yes a lot of money but i think it is worth it, my car has been turbo charged now for over 10 years and has been putting out over 160HP at the crank for most of this time and for the past 4 or 5 years it has been making over 180hp and i have only ever damaged two gearboxes and both have just been wearing the "heavy duty" diff pin (now fixed with Quaife) and taking a few teeth off second gear from a MK1 "S" box (very weak at best of times) and second gear from a mini k box and only just recently the 2 teeth from the pinion gear (this time around) So i think all should be fine fr4om this point onwards, bit noisey but i like it. Looks nice! Are these things really any stronger though? Turbodave on the UK & MM forums doesn't think so, and he's a transmission engineer. 
The SC teeth do wear too, I have a set here out of Ozmotorsport's racecar. |

Hi Doc, yeah i am not too sure if they are that much stronger or not. the main reason for it is that one by one my original gears a breaking from more often than not "normal driving" so i think they are getting a little old and wearing. the SCCR kit was not that much dearer than a std gearset and the best part about it is the close ratios and taller gears which should help with less wheel spin (i hope) plus i love the noise of a SC gearbox |

Sorry to say No, they are not, in fact helical cut are a little stronger because you have a least 1 tooth with full contact + 2 halfs for teeth with contact. Spreads the load from the teeth better around the circumfrance of the gear itself. |

Yeah GT, my thoughts exactly. The production runs of these SCCR gearsets would be pretty short, and straight cut gears are easier to make. |

Yep. Less power loss. Helical cut gears loose more power due to extra friction and side thrust... someone else can probably tell you more than that, but yeah |

Less friction in helicals actually- better made, but yeah they do add some side thrust. The side thrust is more of a problem in the drop gears though. |

So if you have friction in your sc gears, it's because of poor manufacture, or incorrect involute profile? Whereas the friction in helicals comes from the side thrust produced? Hence the power loss? |

The involute profile of these SC gear sets is pretty poor. Compared to the accuracy of the stock helicals, which being production parts were properly made. |
