Post subject:  Crusty RHS tank

I've managed to pick up a right side fuel tank very cheap but its rusty. There was 2 small holes that I've repaired so it doesn't leak now. But, the inside of the tank is very crusty looking.

To clean it I put in about 200 small lead sinkers and shook the tank for about 10 minutes, then flushed out all the crud with a garden hose and water.

Is there something I can put in the tank to help preserve it while its in use? Something that will sit in the bottom or coat the inside of it to stop it rusting any further and won't be affected by constant soak with fuel. And most importantly something that won't end up in the engine.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Go to a motorbike shop, there's a product made specially for this. Coats the whole insides with a resin-like material. It will never leak again. :P

When full of fuel it wont rust. They wont rust unless moisture gets in there.

Um... heating during the day then overnight cooling will pull moisture laden air in there, the water condenses and lays in the bottom of the tank `coz it's heavier. How do I know this? I own a BOAT...
