Hi there people, i have been sorting out all the little niggles on the Moke and change that speedo cable yesterday(forearms hurt so bad!!! )

So today i went for a test run only to find the needle not reading correctly and getting stuck. Swapped the Speedo out with another, and it seems to work fine but i'm guessing for the wrong ratio as at 60ks it read 55ish!

So really want to get the old one working! Could it be as simple as lubing/CRC'ing the input area or anything like that!??!?

There were very special lubricants used in these type of instruments and I think some had jewel type bearings which run dry. Sure, try some 'spray fresh' of what ever type you have to hand to see if that frees it up, but you'll find that it won't last. If that does get it going, I'd suggest getting it serviced by one of the companies who specialise in this type of work. If it is sticking, chances are that the entire unit will be about due for a proper service.

9YaTaH here....don't spray anything inside your speedos ...you really have to know what your doing inside these instruments.

As for the binding...try loosening off the knurled fastener on the end of the cable at the back of the speedo....most people tighten these up way too tight and end up driving the cable inner into the movement.
