I have read on some of the posts concerning this subject that two of the cooper s identity parts are the fuel pump breather grommet under the left rear seat and also the "j" type heater mount brackets spot welded to the firewall. Are these two points unique to the S, or could they be a mini deluxe feature as well.

The electric fuel pump breather and the heater mounts are Cooper S and not fitted to the Deluxe.

I belive the fuel breather grommet is unique to a Cooper S and Clubman GT. As for the heater brackets, they can be fould in some 850, Cooper and deluxe shells as well as an S.

Didn't the early 850's that had an electric fuel pump also have a breather fitted? Also the 997 & 998 Coopers, since these also had electric fuel pumps, did they also fit the breather in to the body??

Anyone know if these firewall grommets that vented the fuel pump inside the car, were ever fitted to English built cars?

They are scarce as ..... in Aus : Ive been searching for 4 years still no luck
Ive now asked John Smidt for a drawing to see if it can be made in a lathe. I have the remains of one from my S but it was virtually destroyed when cleaning off the underseal

Not 100% sure but the part number maybe RFN405. I have been looking to see if they were UK fitted, but it appears not. Someone else here may have better UK references than I do.

Based on that part number, it is a bit of a 'funny' prefix for Mini stuff, so guess is that it was also used in another car on the BMC / Leyland production line.

<EDIT> Sorry, that part number is incorrect. Still searching.

I belive only the S and GT had them fitted, not the 850 & Coopers. Part no is... I cant find my parts book!

Thanks for that. On that part number, it might actually be RFN405. I think have it listed in one of my parts books, but it only has a description, no drawing. Could be worth chasing up. If I have a part number I have a better chance of sourcing them.

I have an 850 that has a breather and sold an 850 years ago that had one to my early 997s don't. Both 850s, with them are 64models

850's had an electric pump model PD - quite a differnt shape - not sure about the vent Cooper S and clubman GT had and SP or AU20 1Ive checked with my BMC parts manual and like GT there is no reference to this "thingy"
Parts list PUB1012 on page D7-3 lists items 36 to 41 Part No AUB611 and 5 other parts all starting with AUB. Amongst the list is a valve - ventilator, ball, cap and sealing ring
I wonder if this is the bit or something else

Anybody ever worked out how it works or was it simply a grommet with two tails and a hole thru the middle?
