With this hot weather I was thinking about how to run the engine cooler.

On my Deluxe I have removed the heater from the engine bay. When it was 'in' there was a pipe that ran from near #4 cylinder to the heater unit and then back from the heater unit to the bottom radiator hose. Obviously this would circulate the coolant throughout the block.

Since removing the heater, I have put a blanking plug near #4.

While looking at the layout today I got thinking that it appears now the coolant goes through the thermostat housing, via radiator and back into the block - really only cooling #1 cylinder.

Is this correct? Would it be better to run a hose from #4 back to the bottom radiator hose?

yeah no.4 will run slightly hotter when you dont run a hose to where the heater hose came out. on mine i ran a hose straight accross from the heater tap hole to the bottom hose..

Mount a Clubby (they are expendable:lol:) heater core behind the grille, and pipe it in between the back of the head and the bottom hose. You will be surprised what a difference it makes on stinking hot days.

Better still.... it would be even better if you were to solder a small pipe fitting in the top Radiator tank and put the water from the back of the head into the top of the radiator, therefor the water does not enter the engine again till it did a cycle through the radiator and got cooled down. Think about it. if you put the water that comes out of the back of the head straight into the bottom hose this already hot water is going straight back into the engine without being cooled first. Even if you have a heater core connected in the system if the water is put into the top tank after the Heater core it gets an other chance at cooling down. I think this makes sense. It works on my car.
