1 3/4 exhaust, 1 3/4 mild steel straight through muffler, Y join and twin 1 1/4 tips that finish 1 inch past the beaver panel, probably better suited to a centre exit, that should give the bark you want.

It funny, with my exhaust on the "Snail" I was going to do the same thing but one thing led to another, I was going to use 1 1/2 but the exhaust place only had 1 3/4 in stock at that time so 1 3/4 it was, I had a certain style of muffler in mind but the exhaust place really only had 5 or 6 available mufflers to fit the 1 3/4 the best one they had as far as construction was a Redback so that went on, I ended up also going with a standard tip but cut at 45o , after driving for a while I have now cut about an 1 1/2 inch or more from the tip as it " feathered " at idle, it now has a quiet burble at idle, has a higher note while changing gear and sitting at 60 and at 100 its actually pretty quiet, I,m happy with the final result as far as the overall sound especially as I don't have any reverberation or drone at highway speeds

ok heres the deal, I am wondering what size exhaust i should use for a hot 1098.i am currently running a 1.75'' pipe with 1 fairly large muffler making a nice deep tone I would however like a little higher pitch exhaust, whats better large pipe small muffler, small pipe large muffler for a high tone exhaust??? Or any other set ups. Cheers

Or any other set ups. Cheers Awww bro I know, seriously, like drill some holes in your muffler it will sound sick!!! And then, drill some in your fan so that it sounds like a turbo charger bro Phwizzzzzzz ...... khooooooooo.... phwizzzzzzzz..... khoooooooooo . . . No ok ok ok serious answer now.........................cuz Most of those fully sick sounding high note buzzy exhausts don't actually do anything for performance, infact some of them cost performance in some situations. Most exhaust systems made specifically for mini's are designed for functionality, not to sound "sick". If you are after a cool (or specific) sounding tone, I would honestly suggest you talk to an exhaust shop. You're from the Riff right? If you don't mind making the trip, there is a fantastic exhaust place at Windsor called "Windsor Exhaust"... the quality of their workmanship is second to none and their prices are very very reasonable. They know exhausts,,, if you tell them what you are after, they will be able to help.

I have just pulled a Redback muffler off one of my cars funnily enoungh... and it sounds just as described here... really noisy and "Barky" I forgot all about it. To be honest, it didn't seem to create anymore back preasure than an RC40 I know I know I was suprised too... I got rid of it cos it was too noisy for my liking... Jordy... I'll send you a PM....

Being old I am so over noisy minis. The constant noise tends to drown out conversation, the radio and seems to reverberate right through the whole car. I also dislike the smirks from other drivers as they swish past in their noiseless falcons and commodores while the mini sounds like it has a "small man" complex. What I do like is the slightly deeper note and double beat of long centre branch extractors with an easy breathing head and carby setup with a nice lope from the cam. To me a noisy mini is akin to someone in a garish hawiian shirt at a wedding as compared to someone tastefully dressed and who you automatically know has got the goods. Mike

With an LCB and 1-3/4" pipe, adding a `hot dog' or similar resonator ahead of the muffler gets rid of a lot of the exhaust drone, which seems worst around 3000 rpm. And it won't hurt the HP. If buying an RC40 system I would go for the twin box one for this reason.

1-3/4'' pipe sounds good from all replys,thanks for all replys i think i should take a trip down to the mufffler shop and have a chat....cheers. what exactly is a straight through muffler compared to an standard mini one

A straight through one has no baffles, instead it is packed with fibreglass around a perforated steel pipe. So less restriction. I won't buy any muffler I cannot see through.

Just got a brand new exhaust system on my 1100 it is a straight thru exhaust and it is extreamly quiet can't hardly hear it

i have a hot 1152 with LCB with 2inch pipe to a RC40 muffler and it sounds wicked..it just depends if u want it for performance or just the noise,my van loves the big bore exhaust..
