I removed the casing on the indicator stalk the other day after having some issues with my highbeams. The blue and white wire is broken in two where it enters the plastic indicator stalk (ie. not at the wire, but the metal clamp thing-amajig that goes into the stalk). Can I solder it back on, or am I going to have to replace the whole unit? |

Is it broken at the wire or isn't it? Can you get a photo? In anycase you should be able to solder it to repair, just make sure it's correctly insulated afterwards if it needs to be. |

You can try to solder it, I've tried and not had sucess. Perhaps even try a real small self tapper. |

I tried soldering one once. Bit tricky. Think I ended up melting the plastic so the whole box & dice got binned. I think BMC/Leyland ordered the cheapest possible unit from Joseph & that's what they got. |

You can solder it but you need to do it quickly and carefully to avoid melting the plastic. |

A solder repair is no good here. You will need to either replace the connector by removing the old one and putting something else there or replace the unit. You could try replacing the connection on the end with one that terminates in a hole and drill through the pin to bolt it on with a small bolt and nut (hobby shop). This would be cheaper than a whole stalk and would last a while compared with just soldering it. Bit of a bodge though. |

I'd pull out both halves of the broken parts and go down to jaycar and see if you can find a part the same (you never know). Failing that, solder it back together and then reassemble. Won't melt anything that way.
