Post subject: | Race Mini wheel alignment specs |
hi all, just wanted some coments on my wheel alignment, car has rose jointed adj LCA's, tie rods, and adj rear brackets. Wheels are 10x6 with the oldschool dunlop R's (S tread pattern). Car is hillclimb/m'khana/maybe some mallala. No road. I was thinking this: front: Neg 2.5 camber, 2mm toe out, not sure on caster rear: 1deg neg camber, 1mm toe out. was thinking maybe more toe out (4mm and 2mm) and have no idea about caster. all sugestions welcome, even non racers ![]() Thanks in advance, Jeff |

Where are you based? Best to speak to the likes of GR or Ken Neilson depending on where you are & what tyres you are using. They will give you good starting points. |

Quote: Front Suspension Settings: toe-out 1/8" overall, castor positive 2.5 degrees, camber 1/4 degree negative.
Rear Suspension Settings: toe-in 1/16" either side, camber 1/8 degree negative. these are specs from this article: http://miniownersclub.com.au/index.php? ... 3&Itemid=2 for a road car but found by the author to be "very good", maybe you can start with them and work from there? |

For Motorkhanna's hillclimb's and Mallala all require different settings. For khanna's typically require a similar set up for the road, Castor 2-3 degrees maybe less 1-1.5 Degree Neg Camber 1mm Toe out Front 2-3mm Toe In Rear 0-0.5 neg camber rear Hillclimb Castor 5+ derees Camber 2 Neg derees 1mm toe out Front 2-3mm Toe in Rear 1 degree Camber Neg Rear Mallala Castor 6+ Degrees Camber 2.5-3 Neg Camber 1mm Toe out Front 1.5-2 Toe in Rear 2 Degrees Neg rear these settings are only a rough guide car and tyre condition will require changes |

start with a basic setup and then drive the car and feel what its doing.. its no good asking what another person does with there car as they arent you.. feel what all 4 wheels are doing and make tweeks etc to it go to a track to test this though, doing a hillclimb or motorkhana wont tell you half as much as what a good solid track session does. push the limits, find the issues, fix them! ![]() |

well thats the point, innit? ![]() I just need something to take to the wheel alignment place to get it in the ball park, then just tune as i see fit from there. I can do tyre pyro's and camber and toe is easy enough to do manually. Thanks for the replies, im surprised that no-one reccomends rear toe out? i assume minis are tail happy enough. Im in the awkward situation of tuning the car from 1000kms away, while my dad and brother run it. in about 4 months ill be able to tune it person. Thanks, Jeff |

I was going to mention the rear toe out, but you requested feedback from racers only ![]() ![]() I had toe out on my roadie for a while until I got it properly aligned, it was twitchy. On tarmac it was fine, just tended to lift-off-oversteer a bit more than normal.. but on dirt it was downright scary, wanting to swap ends with the slightest provocation. I'd point the rears straight ahead if you want a bit of rear lift-off attitude, otherwise stick with a little toe-in. |

Again - talk to an expert who would point you in the right direction in regards to tyres, driver style & racing class. There are heaps out there. Use Yelow Pages for your local Mini guru as a start point. I used my local guru for a starting point in type pressure at the start of last season (went well with his advice) and then adjusted to what I thought felt good - lower, and then lower again etc (not so well)... Anyway, went slower and stuffed my tyres. I know there is a lesson to be learnt there somewhere ![]() Trust the guru... After talking to him after the event he said something like "You did WHAT!" ![]() Looking for new A032R's.... Anyone? LOL or is that crying in my beer.......... Kuzzy |
