A clutch plate on a mini is not expensive - its really not and if the plate hs come out of a car then its probably somewhat worn anyway. There is probably solvents that would disolve the oil out of the clutch plate but seriously - why bother. The real question is why is the oil there on the first place. If the plate has come out of the car then the most common cause is that he oil seal is worn and needs replacing. The clutch oil seal is less than $10 an reasonably easy to change. If the plate has oil on it for sme other reason (like you spilt it) then geting it off with a solvent could be useful - but the plate is not expensive. Mike |

The old bushies trick was to soak the clutch in metho and set it on fire. This is supposed to remove the oil and probably his eyebrows as well. If it was just a fang around a paddock car I would clean the plate with CRC Brakleen. It is a spray on solvent that washes away the oil and then evaporates dry. But for a road car I would fit a new clutch and fix the oil leak. ![]() |

Last time I tried to burn oil off of a clutch it wasn't so successful (rear main seal was leaking and the clutch was almost new). After two unsuccessful attempts (pulling apart, putting back together, pulling apart) I decided to only pull it apart one more time and put a brand new clutch in it because even after burning it, it was still shuddery. Probably would've been ok for a paddock basher but it would've been so annoying on the road everyday. |
