Post subject:  Best All Rounder

Hey all,

Been a long time since i was in here but not too much has changed.. lol

Ok heres the question or topic

What in your opinion is the best all round engine

Something that is reliable, quick, practical.

Something you can drive to the beach with no issues but also take for a spin around a track every once in a while.

What would you pick and remember its the real world so i guess not costing an arm and leg has to go in there somewhere,

I'll say a moderately tuned 1275 , by that I mean some head work , a mild cam (I used to like the works 731 cam , was very drivable without any bad manners) , extractors and single 1 3/4" SU .

You could go for a slightly wilder 998/1098 to get the same power but the 1275 will be more comfortable for the power output .

That's a big load of contradictions there for A series, so I'll have to say the answer is VTEC. :lol:

1100 40thou, 12G295 machined to give you 9:7.1compression- competition double valve springs, Omega flat top pistons , lightened flywheel, grey clutch, Waggott 509 Cam , belt drive timing kit, Pertronix Ignitor Flame-Thrower II 0.6 ohm electronic ignition and coil, 3:44.1 diff with cross pin kit, centre oil pickup, Quickshift gear lever kit, quality heated manifold, 1 1/2 SU No 7 fixed needle, K&N cone filter, quality LCB extractors, 1 3/4 exhaust system with short and long hot dog mufflers , 7.5 disks and quality pads,5x10 inch rims and Dunlop FM-R D93J tyres.

On a motor like this where you are getting a balance between road use and occasional tarmac events it would be another decision to wedge the crank and lighten the internals, if the emphasis is to push the motor to its limits and be competitive on the occasional tarmac events then you probably would, if the emphasis is just on enjoying the car you would'nt unless you had the budget to spare
