Post subject: | Gearbox popping |
Hi all i havent been aroound for a long tme Im having issues with my gearbox its a rod changer (i think the ne with to poles to the box) its deciding its going to popp out of third into neutral from 3rd. I can hold it in third but it clunks once or twice. also it pops out more deaccelerating. Im really hoping someone makes my day and tells me its just a linkage problem but with bens sc12 conversion im thinking it wont be. I tried searching but i cant find anything. Thanks Chris |

Chris, No doubt someone here will tell you what you want to hear. I am afraid the fact is it is more likely to be worn drive dog teeth on 3rd gear and worn 3rd gear selector hub. Will require full strip down of gearbox to fix it. Sorry I can't sugar coat it....... Dave |

Chris, You should of course check all the basics first. Engine Mounts, Engine steady Bushes etc, but I asume you have done that already? Dave |

Thanks again for all your advice You should be able to find a good s/h selector hub assy, they are very expensive new, but I would go for a new selector fork. The hubs for the all synchro boxes were the same. |

Sweet i have three gearboxs one should be ok. Second gear is gone now crunchs in and out at random i think im looking at a long slow education in why to take off slowly. Although i believe why not enjoy driving a car as great as a mini i think i will be driving her on weekends from now on untill i can one day afford to turn her into a targa car. ![]() |

I had the same issue, turned out to be 3/4 selector fork worn. |

This is usually from driving along with your hand resting on the gearstick. |
