Post subject: | crown wheel and pinion ratios |
Hi all, does anyone have a list of the available ratios available for the A series gearbox? i have just found out the A+ pinion is much larger than the A series. I wont to get down to around 3.2:1 Grant |

In Factory Ratios you have;- 2.76:1 2.95:1 3.105:1 3.211:1 3.44:1 3.647: 3.76:1 3.938:1 4.133:1 4.267:1 4.33:1 So there is a bit of choice, there's even the 3.211:1 that your looking for. After market ones go down to about 2.5:1 up to about 4.5:1. |

Thanks GTMowog. are you sure they all fit a A series box? I have bought a 3.2 from Mini spares and pinion does not fit as it is to suit an A+ Grant |

They all fit into an A series box but anything taller than 3.44 you have to machine out the 3rd motion shaft bearing retainer to clear, if it's a remote box. Rodchange boxes have more clearance there. Bring the retainer over with pinion, or take it to GR. ![]() |

I've fitted all these ratios to various 4 syncho gearboxes - Remote, A Rod & A+ Rod change without problem. Why doesn't your 3.2 from Mini Spares fit? Is it a factory one or after market? |

yeah thanks Guys, done some searching and found there is a different C plate on later boxes (A+) i will go through a few of my other boxes and see what i can see. if i dont have one i guess i will mod my current one, should be able to spin it up in the lathe with a 4 jaw chuck easily enough. Thanks again guys Grant |

What would have used the a 4.768:1 final drive? A super short stroke super revvy small bore? |

May contain the odd error; A- ratios: Ratio - teeth - part n° pinion/crown:
A+ ratios: Ratio - teeth - part n° pinion/crown:

What would have used the a 4.768:1 final drive? A super short stroke super revvy small bore? the factory suppied LSD "type" cw&ps in various ratios,,, i remember my dad talking about a 4.6 & 4.8 ratios being supplied back in the day , so i suspect the 4.8 is the one that GTMowog has listed as a 4.786 & i have heard of an even zippy-er one again but it may have been an after-market jobby & yes they`re for super high rev engines & short tight race tracks & hillclimb-cars etc very small diam pinions & often broke-upart because of that so definately not suitable for road use at all |
