Post subject:  Suzuki Alternator Wiring

Hi all,

I have an alternator from a Suzuki Sierra that I need to wire up.
It only has three terminals in total. Theres a plug with two terminals, one marked "IG" and the other "L". The other single terminal has no markings.

I'm assuming that the single terminal goes directly to the battery, the "IG" goes to the ignition somewhere and the "L" is for the alt light?

I hate wiring, please tell me where they go :D :P

Cheers,
Sam

Thanks Matt. You can't tell me exactly where they go can you? :P
Where on the Ignition switch does the 'IG' wire go and do I just wire up the 'L' terminal to the dash light?

Any particular reason why a Suzuki alternator is being used ?

Preeety much :) :P I must say this technically isn't for a Mini but it's helpful to know anyway. It's for my Morry ute.. it had an alternator with an external voltage regulator, the suzuki one is more compact and has an internal regulator :)

Are they wired backwards to other alternators? I had a sierra and the alternator died on it, so got it replaced with a bigger one off another car, (no idea what type or any details) and the alternator warning light stayed on instead of being off. Still put out 12V though.

Interested to see pics of this one fitted, to see how it compares to the Bosch unit...

Pics might not quite show the size difference, but there's a fair bit in it...

The Suzuki Swift or Charade later type alternator with the internal fan is much neater, more efficient and compact.
