Hi guys, For some reason my high speed on my wiper motor doesent work? Low speed works fine, and when I switch it to high speed, the motor just pauses for a second and then continues to go on low speed. Any ideas on how to fix it or whats gone wrong? Cheers Lockie. |

At a guess, and knowing what their like, I'd say the switch is cactus. |

it could be the switch, or it could be the copper ring that sits inside the motor. As you usually run them at high speed when its raining, and moisture can get inside the unit, the copper corrodes and the connection weakens. Take the four bolts off the cover, unhook the wiper arm, and take out the cog. On the underside of the cog you will see the copper ring contact, use some sandpaper to clean it, and then put it back together. |

Water gets into the motor via the rack tube. The slip rings are not copper on these motors, they are mild steel. They RUST away... The 3 brush fingers are copper. The usual clue that the slip rings have had it is when the motor refuses to auto-park. Mini King has new replacement slip rings, and I think `convertible mini' does too. Best to strip the whole motor and clean all the old grease and muck out. a smear of grease on the new slip rings helps stop them rusting, or you can drill a hole in the bottom of the housing to let the water out (GT m's method). |

Has anyone come up with a fix for the copper wipers? The ends wear away and / or get broken off. If you look at this 'switch' (the one in the back of the wiper motor gear) it is a SPDT in its action. The last one I did I could find any decent copper wipers so I put a micro-switch in it. Very fiddly but got the job done. From memory, this 'switch' is for the auto-parking and dosen't have anything to do with the Hi-speed setting. |

I would try a spot of high silver content silver solder, and judicious use of heat. Silver makes a great contact surface. What was Cigweld's SBA45 is a good grade. Not sure of the BOC equivalent. <edit> here is a data sheet- http://www.dynaweld.com.au/msds/pdf/300207-208.pdf |
