Post subject: | Revolution 12*6s - wheel arch cutting required? |
As the titile suggests, I was hoping someone could tell me whether I would have to cut my wheel arches to fit revolution 12*6 rims? I'm planning on getting some yoko A539s aswell. Will be fitted over metro 4 pots with vented discs. Tried the search function but no luck so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I didn't have to cut the arches when we fitted exactly those wheels to our Clubman Estate (currently running standard drums at the front), however metro vented disks and disk hubs will push your wheel outwards more. I imagine you are going to have to cut the front of the arch as it's pretty close on ours. It doesn't look it in the pic below, but when you turn the wheels there's not much clearance. ![]() |

mines in a roundy front with metro vented brakes, it scrubs at the front without guard modification. We didn't cut the guards, instead just reworking them a little... but it still scrubs a bit reversing/turning on hills. More BFH needed |

Thanks for the responses. Mine is a roundie too, i don't really want to cut the guards incase I ever want to return it to something more original. Gareth- could you solve the problem by increasing the ride height, i'll have hilo's too and don't mind having it a bit higher. Also, what flares are you running? the same "black plastic"(unsure of the official name) ones as Angusdog ^^^ is running? Do your tyres poke out much? cheers |

Just thinking about it, your flares are going to have to be larger (deeper) than the standard mini flares, due to the Metro disks and disk hubs. Our stick out maybe 5mm beyond the guard. It would be interesting to know how much that increases the track as I have the same brake & disk combo going onto my Mk II but with deep dish 12" minilights. |

yeah mine are the black plastic flares, it scrubs right at the front of the wheelarch only so i dont think jacking it up us going to answer the problem without REALLY jacking it up. I am pretty confident that by bashing the front of the guard outwards enough clearance could be made. I just gave mine a few whacks to get it onto historic plates, i havn't made a serious effort to make it fit, but im sure it would. I have Hi lo's too, i also have adjustable castor and camber plates on mine, the castor naturally makes a difference to it scrubbing at the front, so if you have a lot of castor, or a little, that will make the problem better or worse too. That just depends on your body (if the front tie bars are bent it will surely make it worse though) My tyres are pretty illegal, easily an inch past the flare at the front, about half at the rear.... looks hot ![]() ![]() ![]() |

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60489 theres a few pics of my car there, theres one where im test fitting the front guards when it has the vented discs, you can see that even a stock cheesecutter with a 145 is slightly past the bodyline. You get an idea in the rest of the pics that they do stick out a bit more than one would like. I have considered putting them on the lathe and taking some out of the inside, but im sidetracked at the moment with my girlfriends new ride, FB holden Wagon. I just checked the car, The little negative camber helps them look more legal, but any close inspection shows the fronts stick out around 1.5 inches. |

Angusdog-seems like Gareth_1330's car gives a pretty good indication but i agree, it would be interesting to see some figures. Gareth- Thats an impressive build, very motivating. I see what you mean about the overhang past the flares. There is quite a bit. I'll most likely be fitting an adjustable front geometry kit at some stage but by the looks of it, a lot of negative camber would be require to get them under those flares. Might have to look at some wider flares, at least for the inspection. Those weels do look hot sticking out like that. Can anyone tell me what a reasonable price to pay for this wheel and tyre combo is? (revolution 12*6s wth Yoko A539s) I've been looking at a few sites in the UK and it generally appears to be around 1000AUD with postage. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks for the Help. |

I'm not sure fitting adjustable suspension just so the wheels clear the guards is a great idea - the handling or tyre wear is going to be tragic, surely? I got my 12x6 minilites through Huddersfield Spares and including shipping (which seemed extortionate) they were still cheaper than buying locally, so 1,000AUD sounds pretty much ballpark. Plus, in theory, you should end up with some relatively rare wheels on your car but I think we've deduced every second mini rolls on 12" Revos ![]() |

Yeah I thought around $1000 seemed pretty fair. I was thinking of the adjustable front end more in terms of helping get the tyres under the flares for the inspection, then changing it back to something more reasonable after. Of course I could just buy some bigger flares. And i suppose those restrictions are there for a reason. Thanks for the help. |

adjusting the suspension wont make it legal, they stick out pretty far, plus the bottom would stick out heeaaaps far if you tried that way but in the general accuracy of mini geometry if your unlucky enough to have positive camber with standard suspension it will make it look worse. Mine had 2degrees positive from just throwing it together with whatever adjustment, it looked bad, when i adjusted it at ivans to 3/4ish degree negative it looked better. |

Highly recommend Huddersfield. This is who I purchased my wheels and tyres from. I checked out all of the wheel suppliers when I was at IMM2009 and they had the best looking wheels. Some suppliers had cheap looking Chinese copies for similar price ![]() |
