Post subject: | Quick gasket question |
Hi all, Just started putting on my stage 1 kit from minisport, and found that the inlet gaskets aren't included. And after buying one, I realised that I need two because there was a spacer attached to the old manifold. I've just cut one out of some gasket cork, but I've noticed that the minisport inlet manifold has a larger hole. I'm using an HS4, and the manifold is also compatible for the HIF44s which need the bigger hole. Should I just cut the gasket hole a little bigger? No big problem, I'm just not sure what's usually done, and I don't think having the gasket hanging inside the manifold is a good idea. (Sorry about all the recent topics I've made - I want my mini back on the road!) |

so you're fitting a HS4 (38mm) to a new manifold with a 44mm bore? probably not a good plan - I'd be hunting down a HS6 however I'd put the 44mm hole gasket on the manifold side of the spacer, and the 38mm hole gasket on the carb side |

I bought a stage 1 kit for an HS4 and this was just the one provided. I actually have 6 Hs6 carbs lying around but none of them are in working condition, and I want to keep the fuel economy. For a 998, I understand that an Hs6 would be too much anyway. By the way, does anyone know what the threaded hole leading into the inlet manifold is for? I know the two pipes at the side are for the water cooling, but it looks like I'll just have to plug up this hole unless it's for something useful. |

The threaded hole is for your brake vacum connection (if a vac unit is fitted!), otherwise just put a suitable bolt with sealant in to block it off. |
