Nasty... real kick in the guts for such a small, tight knit community. I remember as a kid the footy club in Burra was built over several years with great input from everyone in the community - a few months later it was burned down - along with all the trophies and memorabilia of many years of local sports - rebuilt it but it took a while and didn't do much for morale.

On the upside, how did they manage to get ELEVEN  fire appliances and a big f-off tanker to Hay? Hats off to the CFA boys! (How's that for decent service!) Those guys from Griffith and Deniliquin must have really been flying across the plains! (though I'm guessing they wouldn't see a fire this big very often...)

I should really confirm my room at the Cobb Inlander before they and other motels take up the ones who would normally stay at the comfort in.

I guess I could always sleep in Simon's tent... that really would be worst case scenario.

Yep - 30 years worth of Mini Nationals memorabilia gone.

The new club just doesn't have the same character.

About as bad as sleeping out there in the back of a mini, which is what I did in '72 I think.
Parked in the MCCSA tent on the old motorkhana site. I like to think it was to provide security, but actually I was too tightarsed to pay for a room.
