I was stripping the head of my 998 to change a lot of gaskets amongst many things.
And theres a lot of carbon buildup on top of the pistons.
It also looks like part of the piston has been chipped away.
Ive taken a few pictures, and could someone tell me if this is normal?

Btw the engine was rebuilt 10 000 miles ago and came apart really easily.
Cheers,
Joe

MMMMMMMM, nice shoes :? .
I think the piston in question has lost a chunk of carbon , not a chunk of piston
or your mini may have "piston pox"

That would be an attractive assistant. Her training is coming along well, upgraded her to scraping gaskets off today.

Hang on a minute, in the first pic at the front of the block i see a nice red shoe and on the back of the block a manky thong, do you have a mutant crossdressing foot, the location of the nice red shoe in comparison to the manky thong suggests 3 things
1# Mutant crossdressing foot
2#severed ladys foot used as engine stand
3#You have a fetish for taking engine pics whilst being VERY close to your signifigant other

So NO, ALL IS NOT WELL HERE

Maybe #1, but which way is cross dressing?
Maybe #3, I mightve figured out the way to get inlimited shed time with minimal interuption by hiding in front of your significant other.

that's called 'gaflish' - you get used to it eventually, never really understand it, but you do get used to it...

and blue_deluxe, those pistons look perfectly normal

Can't be sure of the foot however, there's not enough to tell.
We may need a complete photo of the foot.

Thats good to hear, the last time i stripped the engine i was about 14 and was a spanner passer.
Actually i was kind of hoping for it to be on its last legs, forced induction or bimmer twinky could still be a lot of fun on a 998...

Having spent yesterday decoking a block and head, gasket stripper works well for loosening up that crud. Chip off what you can first though.

the carbon is fine. Put it together again and spray some water in the carb :D .

Re. the shoe

I have been trying to find something like that in a size 12 for ages. Where did you get them from?
