By searching the old posts I found out the year of my mini is a 69 mini k van (its titled wrong as a 67') How can I get a replacement plate and what is suppose to look like. Some one used a strong cleaning agent and took the paint off so all I have is a blank stamped plate. I am in the process of a bare metal restoration and would like to have nice looking plates on the dash. Thanks Deniz |

Mini spares has these, http://www.minispares.com/Shop.aspx?ty= ... g%20plates (copy and paste link, hyperlink doesn't work) But they're not the same as the plates used on Australian Built minis ![]() Are you still in KS? (I have family in Lake Quivira - was there over xmas!) and if so, how the bejesus did you end up with an Aussie Mini Van? |

Technically they are not VIN plates. Up until about March 1969, they all had a BMC Australia body plate pop rivetted onto the firewall. It showed car number, engine number, colours etc. Repro ones are available here, they are close to correct, but not perfect. To look original they also need to be reverse stamped in places. There is a recent thread about them and the stamping, on www.minimania.com if you do a search. From March `69- Dec `69 there were NO plates attached to the car. From December `69 on, they had a compliance plate showing which ADRs (Australian Design Rules) the car complied with. The ones used on 1970-71 cars are almost square and are mounted with 4 rivets on the crossmember, just above the RH suspension tower. These plates were never available aftermarket, AFAIK. |

It looks like its the early 69'. Yes, I'm in KC. I bought the car from the original guy who imported the car in 89'. I'm not sure how he got an aus mini. Deniz |

Is it a small plate (2 rivets) on the firewall, or a big, almost square one with 4 rivets above the suspension tower of the subframe? This will help us date it, and ID the plate. |

http://www.boxweed.addr.com/collector_c ... serial.htm there is someone in USA who will reproduce an entire VIN type plate, IE everything stamped from the back, the line around the edge, everything. A guy with a Brock VK Commodore showed me a plate he had redone - a-ma-zing |

My mate had a 12 month old XR6, he slid it (slowly) sideways into a pole. Pole went through the VIN plate and buggered it. Fix the car?? No can do, apparently. Even though it would have been fixable. They wrote it off. N*** then made him wait 2 or 3 months for the payout (it was insured for market value, bad move for a depreciating asset). |
