Post subject:  Piston Rings

Hello All.
Does it matter where the top ring gap is placed on the piston ?
Thanks.

no it doesnt but make sure you gap the rings in the block first

It is always good to keep the gap away from the exhaust valve!
IE opposite side of piston.

hee hee,,, Dave you`re so mean :-)

it is best to keep all the gaps away from the thrust sides of the pistons, also best not to put them on the lined up with the gudgeons either,,,

diagonally is good tho, between the gudgeon pin & the thrust sides... so there are effectively 4 good spots to put them ,,, but please don`t line them all up together,,, stagger them so that none of the gaps actually line up with any of the others

Whilst on the topic, whats a general rule of thumb for piston ring gaps. Is there say a rule of so many thou per circumferance?

min of .010" for mini bores,,, there is a """"Thou of gap per inch of boe diam""" as a rule of thrmb, but i`ve forgotten it,,, i`ve actually forgotten lots of stuff but if you have at "Least" .010" then you`ll be fine

sorry but 8 burbons & 4 beers so far makes me a tad on the tippsy side so i could say anything & ,,,be with anyone ,,, when i`m likr this :-) well,,, ok maybe not with :anyone",,, as long as they`re females then i coud be with anyone atm :-)
