Post subject:  Difference in originial vs replacement valance panel
I am doing a Starlet GT (4EFTE) engine conversion when I found this problem, however it is an issue which I'm sure someone has faced at some point.

I found a big difference between the holes / mounting points on the orginal valance panel versus the replacement valance panel (for a Clubman). In the pic below (of the inside of the front valance panel - passengers side) the original subframe mount is the lower hole however in the replacement panel, this is a much larger hole in the same location!

Why the difference? Was there ever a change on the method or location of bolting in the subframe? I'm not using the original subframe for my conversion but for anyone who buys this panel as gets it welded on, how do you bolt the subframe back in?

The new front panel you have is a later "Rover" type panel with the holes for a rubber mounted subframe. To use your eariler type subframe you will need to weld up & re drill the holes in the new panel.

I have fitted these. Just get the rubber mount and it will all line up. Part No. for the mount 21A2624. You may also need to put a couple of shimes between the panel and this mount, in fact since you are replacing the panel, I would suggest that you align so that you do need to use at least one shim so as to make it easier to put the subframe in.

All sorted. I used 2x 3/8" washers which fitted perfectly in the 25mm diameter hole and left and lovely centred bolt/mount hole. Tacked & welded it in tonight :D

Great work Alan. I'm finding minis to be bit of a challenge, they keep the brain active. Adapt and overcome, eventually a solution will present itself. :D

The next thing to sort out is the fact that the flat surface sits further away from the subframe. You'll need a spacer between the subby and the panel.

Not an issue for me, I'm doing the Starlet GT engine conversion so will be making my own custom front subframe.
