Post subject:  Flywheel puller PCD ?
I need a flywheel puller to continue stripping down my spare motor, and the tool shop just around the corner from the office has one on the shelf cheap.

Question is, what's the PCD of the bolt holes on a 2-piece flywheel? This puller is a littlie, only goes out to 50mm radius. Is it big enough?

PCD is 4.0" (101.6mm).
Bolts are 3/8 UNF, use Grade 8.

Definitely, I generally use a bit of LMM. It's kept my cheap Chineeeeese ball joint splitter going for ages :lol:

Why buy one that is as you say ' little and cheap' when the job probably needs something a bit heavier?

If it doesn't work you'll have to buy another one. I'd consider getting the right one for the job straight up, buy, make or borrow.

Coz it's there, it's close and it's cheap :lol:

Seriously, this place is stellar with warranty returns so if it's not right for the job I'll get my money back tomorrow.. and I can't see myself getting to anywhere else to buy one until the weekend :(

And without a welder, the one I'd be able to make would be much, much dodgier :lol:

Just be careful with the warranty crap. If you walk in later with it broken and you've tried to get 5 tonne of force (yes science nerds I've used the wrong terminology there I know, don't start) out of something designed to take 1 they may not cover you.

or you could just visit a workshop in broken hill after breaking down out the back of silverton, only to need one, and the owners father who is like 70, thinks ive seen one of these around here before, and goes and gets one off the shelf, even though he hasnt worked on a mini in 40 years.

Well, that was easy 8)

The puller was a little too small, at 100mm max diameter it was slightly too small for the 4" Mini flywheel PCD.

A few minutes with a round file later and I slotted it out a poofteenth more, then wound it on nice and tight.

A little judicious application of heat from the butane torch and it gave a gentle "pop" and all is well in the world :D 8)

Should just carry your engine in with you and try it then and there.
