That is a bit rude to repair your alternator, have you tried exchange? Shop around. I buy new 70 Amp Alternators for Minis for way less than you have been quoted.

Not sure if the VL Alternator will be a direct fit.

I've heard astra alternators are stupidly expensive. You might be able to get a mini alternator sourced from someone local to you, but the usual mini parts suppliers should be able to help you out.

Considering your various wiring problems I vote for one of convertible mini's new alternators as well , start fixing it there with a really good alternator and you know you're starting right rather than possibly starting with another fault from a second hand alternator .

i bought a new regulator and rectifier? (i think its called) for my corolla alternator and the parts alone cost $185. but it will depend on what is wrong with yours, open it up and check to see there is enough length on the brushes, could be as simple as that (they cost less than $5). but yeah alarm bells start ringing when u say you dont have a fuse box, sort your wiring out before you do more damage

Hey Post it to me and I will repair it for you. I sell new ones cheaper than the repair quote you have had. I will send you PM with address.

Good that you got a quote first, I left mine at a reputable place 'give me a call with a price', when he rang 'about 190.00' I said that is ridiculous I know I can buy new cheaper, he said well you have to pay for my time to strip it down so I just paid him, never go back there.....
